Stock Pots

A stock pot is one of the essential cooking tools required in a fully prepared kitchen. The tell-tale sign of a stock pot is the tall sides of the pot. When not making stock, consomme or homey soups in the stock pot, it can used to cook applesauce, corn, artichokes, crabs, lobster, chili, and pasta.

Like most cooking essentials, stock pots can be either inexpensive or very expensive, depending on the material and brand name. Finding the stock pot right for you depends on what the stock pot will be used for and how often it will be used. Aluminum stock pots are generally very inexpensive, but lighter. These pots may be fine for casual cooks, but not serious gourmets. A heavy stainless steel stock pot is the optimum, but comes with a premium price tag. Regardless of how much you spend, always look for a heavy-bottomed stock pot to prevent food from burning.
