The Dishtowel Bunny
This particular dishtowel craft is a favorite for springtime festivals, including Easter and Mayday. You'll need one regular sized dishtowel, two washcloths, and some ribbon.
First, lay your dishtowel out a table with the bottom side up. Fold the dishtowel in thirds lengthwise, and then in thirds lengthwise again. Set the folded dishtowel aside. This will be the bunny's body.
Next, take one of the washcloths and roll two opposite corners in towards the diagonal middle. This will be your bunny's ears.
Now take your folded dishtowel and fold it horizontally 1/3 of the way down. Slip the rolled washcloth through the fold and pull the corners up away from the dishtowel so they are even. Take a piece of ribbon and tie the dishtowel right below the washcloth. Tie another piece of ribbon around the two ends of the washcloth right above to the dishtowel. You now have your bunny's head and ears!
Take your other washcloth and roll it from one edge to another. This will be bunny's arms.
Slide the washcloth in the folded dishtowel right beneath the bunny's head.
Tie a piece of ribbon around the dishtowel below the second washcloth. This will hold the washcloth in place.
Now bring the arms down to fold in front of the bunny. Use a final piece of ribbon to tie the arms together and create hands.
You now have the perfect bunny for holding Easter baskets or kitchen spoons. The bonus to this dishtowel craft is that when you are sick of your bunny, you can undo it easily and use the dishtowel and washcloths at home!
Dishtowel Apron
Here is another favorite dishtowel craft that is perfect for little kitchen helpers. These pint-sized aprons are easy to assemble, make for a great craft project, and will help keep your kid's clothes clean.
Start with a large dishtowel. Select one that has a pattern your child will enjoy, such as trains or bells.
Lay the dishtowel vertically, with the pattern side down. Fold the top two corners and press with an iron.
Sew a line alone each fold, 1 inch from the crease.
Run a long ribbon or thread up through the right corner, and back down through the left. This will create the neck loop and waist string.
Tie the apron snuggly around your child and start cooking.
Helpful Hint: Hang the apron on a low peg so your child can grab it and put in on him or herself.
