Kitchen Clock Styles

From Retro to Space-age

Retro Kitchen Clocks

Retro kitchen clocks are designed to imitate kitchen clock styles from yesteryear. Popular retro kitchen clocks are designed to recreate styles from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. A popular trend in retro kitchen clocks is to imitate diner clocks from the 50s. These kitchen clocks often have thick square frames in bright, retro colors, such as sparkling cherry red. Another popular retro style is the Kit Kat clock, which is a black cat with the face of the clock in its belly and a swinging pendulum tail. You can find retro kitchen clocks in most department stores.

Theme Kitchen Clocks

This type of kitchen clock has a festive design or pattern that would ideally go with a themed kitchen. For example, if you have decorated your kitchen with a country motif, you may want to get a kitchen clock with cows or barns printed on the face or frame. Other popular designs include chili peppers, fruits and vegetables, sun/moon patterns, or cutlery. These kitchen clocks can work with an existing kitchen theme, or add spice to a classic kitchen. You can find themed kitchen clocks most commonly in department stores.

Classic Kitchen Clocks

These clocks are very traditional looking, with solid colored frames, white or beige faces, and classic numbering. These kitchen clocks can be purchased very cheaply at the low end of the price scale, or very expensively in clock specialty stores. On the higher end of the price scale, expect to find very high quality kitchen clocks, made from wood and glass, and designed to last. If you are looking for a classic look, or a no-frills design, this is the clock for you.

Waterbury Kitchen Clocks

The Waterbury Clock Company, which made clocks in the 1800s and early 1900s, produced many wall mounted kitchen clocks that have now become quite collectible. You can expect pay anywhere from $100-$800 for a Waterbury kitchen clock. These clocks are very classic in appearance, and often made of wood and glass. Since they are antiques, they almost all require winding with a key. Waterbury also made some kitchen cuckoo clocks, which can add a nice Old World feel to your kitchen.
