Stainless Steel Dish Drainers

A brand comparison

Rubbermaid – Rubbermaid makes a very nice 5-piece Sinkware Set, which retails for around $30. It comes in black, red, cobalt, yellow, white, and chrome. The set includes a plastic coated stainless steel dish drainer, a drain board, a sink mat, an over the sink colander, and a sponge caddy. This is truly the ideal dish drainer set for a college student, or a young adult in a first apartment. It includes everything you need to start doing dishes, except the soap and sponge.

The dish drainer that comes in the 5-piece set is 7H x 14-1/2W x 15-1/2L. This is really plenty of space for a sink full of dishes to dry. The dish drainer comes with a cup for kitchen utensils, and has wire dividers to separate plates and bowls in the drainer. The drain board allows for easy drainage of excess water.

Rubbermaid also makes a slightly larger dish drainer that sells alone. This dish drainer is ideal for a household with more than one person, and includes side prongs for drying cups and glasses, as well as wire dividers and a utensil cup.

Kitchenaid – Kitchenaid makes a stainless steel dish drainer that sells for around $40. Unlike the Rubbermaid dish drainer, which is all wire, the Kitchenaid dish drainer has a plastic base, which frames a wire dish drainer. The plastic base works as a dish board, and drains excess water into the sink.

The Kitchenaid model includes a wire rack with dividers for plates and bowls, and side prongs for cups and glasses. A detachable flatware caddy can attach to either side of the plastic base. Measurements for the dish drainer are 3.75H x 18W x 15L, which basically means that it is 4 inches wider than the Rubbermaid dish drainer. One nice thing about the Kitchenaid dish drainer is that it is about half as tall as the Rubbermaid drainer, which allows for easy placement underneath a kitchen cabinet.

2-Tier Dish Drainers – You can also get a two tier stainless steel dish drainer which folds out from a centered hinge and offers two levels for dish drying. This dish drainer is sleek, and offers a separate drying place for plates, cups, and flatware. However, the two tier dish drainer does measure considerably higher than the Kitchenaid or Rubbermaid dish drainers at 18 inches.
