Dishwasher Parts

Replacing a dishwasher part can be relatively easy.  If you know what brand of dishwasher you have, you can look online at the manufacturer's page, where you'll be given an assortment of dishwasher parts (which include pictures to help you out!)  You can then order your part and install it yourself or have the manufacturer install it for you.

Here's a list of common dishwasher parts that may need to be replaced from time to time.

Silverware baskets come in several types.  They can range from one to eight or more compartments. Many baskets also contain individual snap covers for each section. Some baskets are situated in the interior of the dishwasher, while others are mounted on the door, so make sure you know which kind your dishwasher uses!

Dish rack clips are made for a dish rack that has adjustable pegs. They keep the dish rack from moving around when the dishwasher is running.

Door gaskets are black rubber tubes, used to create a seal between metal or plastic.

Dish rack rollers are usually made out of plastic and cause the upper or lower dish rack to roll out of the dishwasher.

Lower dish rack assembly is usually made out of plastic.  It is the piece that holds dishes in the bottom half of the dishwasher.

Upper dish rack assembly, also made out of plastic, is the large piece that holds dishes in the upper half of the dishwasher.

The inner door foam installation piece is made out of rubber and is used to prevent water leakage.

Upper spray arm is plastic and is used to circulate water throughout the dishwasher. The spray arm also comes with a small retainer.

Door latches are pieces used to keep the door locked and in place.  Some contain two side switches.

Mounting strip wheels are the wheels attached to the lower or upper dish racks that cause them to roll in and out of the dishwasher.

Keep it consistent!

While some manufacturers use identical or similar parts, you'll want to make sure that you use the specific part intended for your brand of dishwasher.  Look for model numbers on your parts, or in the guide that came with your dishwasher.  If you're still not certain what part needs to be replaced (or if you are and don't know what that little doohickey is called), call a service representative, help line, visit the store you made your purchase at, or look for tips online.
