Garbage Disposal

Garbage Disposal

The use of garbage disposals came into question in the late '80s due to environmental concerns, and these units were even made illegal in New York City until 1997. Since then, garbage disposals have seen a renewed popularity due to endorsements by plumbers, manufacturers, and kitchen designers. New designs have made them safer to use and environmentally friendly. With a simple flick of a switch, powerful motors use centrifugal force, strong swinging lugs, and a shredder ring to grind food waste into small particles that can be safely sent down the drain.

Installation is relatively simple for the handy do-it-yourselfer, and proper care is a matter of preventative maintenance. Safety measures should always be observed and care taken to keep hands, fingers, and other foreign objects clear of the operating garbage disposal.
