With rice cookers you get more than delicious rice
If you are looking for any easy and economical way to make delicious meals, it might be time to consider using a rice cooker. Rice cookers, much like slow cookers, take the work out of dinner, essentially allowing you to fix it and forget it.
More than you think
Rice cookers often surprise people because they are capable of making much more than just rice. Some rice cooker users prepare meals and side dishes like scrambled eggs, spaghetti, oatmeal, spare ribs, and even corn on the cob using their units.
Get cookin'
While there are many different rice cooker recipes available to help you get started, most people will find that once they understand how it works they can use it to prepare almost any dish. However, below are a few, simple rice cooker recipes to start your collection.
Chicken soup for rice cookers
1. Combine one chopped onion, two minced cloves of garlic, three chicken bouillon cubes, and a chicken into the rice cooker.
2. Add enough water to the rice cooker to cover the chicken.
3. Cook uncovered for about 40 minutes or until the water begins to boil.
4. Take the chicken out and remove the bones. You can either put it back into the rice cooker or simply serve it on the side.
5. Finally, add two sliced carrots and an eight-ounce bag of uncooked egg noodles.
6. Allow the soup to cook for another 10 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
Remember, even if the rice cooker can't prepare the entire meal, you can use it to cook a big part of the meal. Here's a rice cooker recipe that is an example of yet another way you can put your unit to work.
Taco meat
1. Add one pound of hamburger and one medium chopped onion to the rice cooker.
2. Turn the rice cooker onto the cook function and allow it to brown the meat and sauté the onion. You should stir occasionally. Note: The rice cooker may automatically turn itself to the warm function. If this happens, simply turn it back to the cook function.
3. It's best to use lean hamburger for this rice cooker recipe, but if there is any grease, just use a spoon to remove it or strain the meat before adding the remaining ingredients.
4. Once the meat is cooked, turn down it to the warm setting.
5. When you are ready to eat add one eight-ounce jar of taco sauce and salt and pepper to taste.
