All About Microwave Carts

To cubby or not to cubby

Some microwave carts have a cubby like space on their tops. This space is designed as an alcove to hold your microwave. Some microwave carts do not have this cubby, but rather have a plain, flat countertop where you may place your microwave.

Whether or not you want a microwave cart with a cubby is really a matter of personal preference. One bonus to having a cubby spot for the microwave is that the top of the cubby could be used as a storage space for other things, such as framed family pictures or houseplants.

Some microwave carts with cubby spots for the microwave have a hutch above the cubby for storage of dishes or knick knacks. This can also be an appeal to having such a cart.

An added perk of microwave carts

In addition to providing a convenient place to place a microwave, these carts can create extra storage space and room in a kitchen. Like regular kitchen carts, most microwave carts have either shelves or drawers in the base of the units. You can store basically anything in this space, and you should consider what you would like to store when you browse for a microwave cart.

But perhaps you are looking for a place to store extra pots and pans, or an area to keep a childs art supplies; in that case you may want a microwave cart with shelves. Some microwave carts also come with towel bars, or hooks, but of course, those could be added to most carts after purchase.

Styles of microwave carts

Microwave carts can be stationary, designed to stand still, or rolling, mounted on casters. They are also made in a variety of designs and from a variety of materials, such as different woods, or from more cost-efficient particle board. They can also be made from stainless steel.

Those made from wood can come in virtually any stain color. You may want to match your microwave cart to your existing cabinetry, or to choose a complementary stain. For example, if you have dark cherry wood cabinets in your kitchen, a nice light pine microwave cart can provide a very pleasing contrast.

If you feel like your microwave has no home in your kitchen, or is crammed onto an already crowded kitchen counter, you may want to consider getting a microwave cart. It will provide a home for your microwave oven, as well as create additional storage space for other kitchen goods!
