Kitchen Island Carts

It's all in the name

Kitchen carts, also known as kitchen island carts, or kitchen utility carts, come in a wide variety of shapes and styles. There are two basic varieties: kitchen carts with wheels (kitchen rolling carts), and stationary kitchen carts without wheels, which look like small kitchen islands. Either variety may range in width from around 25 to 55 inches. Kitchen cart countertops may be made from a variety of materials, including wood, stainless steel, granite, or butcher block.

Pricing kitchen carts

Kitchen carts range in pricing almost as much as they range in size. Discount kitchen carts can be found at most retail department stores. If you are looking for an even cheaper discount kitchen cart, try looking at your local thrift stores, or searching garage sales. Kitchen carts are, after all, moveable, and thus can be easily transported to thrift stores, or into someone's garage for a moving sale.

If you are looking for a mid-range kitchen cart, try looking for such brands as Homestyles Kitchen Carts, which generally ring in at $150 to $500. If money is not an issue, luxury kitchen carts can be purchased from $1,000-$5,000. Some of these more expensive kitchen carts even include flameless cook tops.

What you can cart on your cart

Kitchen carts vary wildly as far as what features are included. All kitchen carts include a flat upper surface similar to a counter top. Many include drawers below this counter top, although some have shelves. Kitchen carts may include towel bars on the sides, or hooks for hanging kitchen utensils. Some kitchen carts have attachments that go above the counter top for hanging pots. The kind of cart you get depends on your own kitchen storage needs.

One popular variety of kitchen carts is the microwave cart. People buy microwave carts for the obvious reason of holding their microwaves. But these carts can also have extra shelves or drawers for storage. Another common type of cart is the serving cart. These carts almost always have wheels, and are often used to serve beverages such as wine or lemonade.
