Kitchen sinks

Kitchen sink materials, designs, and faucets

A new kitchen sink should be part of every kitchen redecoration. Replacing a kitchen sink is one of the least expensive aspects of kitchen renovation, and contemporary kitchen sinks give you a lot for your money: inexpensive yet durable materials, appealing modern designs, and advanced faucets with ergonomic features that will make cooking and cleaning a lot easier.

Kitchen sink materials

Stainless steel is still the standard, but kitchen sinks are available in a wide variety of materials to suit any need or budget. Composite kitchen sinks are durable, high-quality appliances that can also bolster your kitchen decor, while solid surface kitchen sinks have made inroads because of their color and cost effectiveness.

Not all composites are created equal. Granite-based kitchen sinks won’t look lustrous, but they’re as durable as it gets. Quartz composite kitchen sinks may provide the best combination of affordability, endurance, and aesthetic appeal, while polyester and acrylic based composites are recommended only if your budget is limited.

Solid surface kitchen sinks can be integrated with the countertop and are very durable for their cost. Just don’t be deceived by the name. Solid surface kitchen sinks are built from acrylic or polyester with mineral fillers, and their surfaces are not as resistant as quartz or granite-based composites.

Kitchen sink designs

The number of shapes, designs, and mounting styles available for modern kitchen sinks can be almost overwhelming. Just know that there’s bound to be a kitchen sink design ideal for your needs. Kitchen sinks with two or three bowls or differently sized bowls are common. Features such as cutting boards, instant hot water dispensers, and purified water dispensers can also be incorporated.

If the space is available, you might even consider having two kitchen sinks: a deeper basin for cooking and cleaning tasks, and a smaller bar-style sink that provides filtered or purified water and instant hot water. Price out your options and choose the kitchen sink design that’s best for you.

Kitchen sink faucets

We’ve already mentioned kitchen sink features such as instant hot water dispensers and purified water dispensers, but the faucet itself can also be more ergonomic and user friendly. Pull-out spouts are great for washing, and the increased access they provide essentially increases the basin space of your kitchen sink. Longer faucets are also useful, especially if you settle on a kitchen sink with multiple bowls.
