If you like to use fresh apples to cook and bake, you'll find uses for a variety of apple corer tools in your kitchen. Here is a description of popular apple tools followed by a list of some favorite apple dishes and an explanation of which apple tool to use to make them.
Apple tools
1. Apple corer. The stainless steel head of an apple corer slices easily through the middle of the fruit. Simply center the tool over the stem end of an apple, push down firmly and twist it so that the serrated blade cuts through the meat.
2. Apple corer slicer. This gadget cuts apples into twelve even sections while simultaneously removing the core. The stainless steel blades of an apple corer slicer won't rust or bend, so they cut your apples cleanly and evenly.
3. Apple peeler corer slicer. Even in today's high tech world, there's nothing better or faster for peeling, slicing and coring apples than this old fashioned tool. The apple peeler corer slicer is made with either a suction base or a clamp to grip your countertop while you work. You can set the machine to peel only or core and slice without peeling. It is made out of cast steel with a stainless steel shaft and prong.
Favorite apple dishes
Applesauce. The fastest way to make applesauce is to use a peeler corer slicer to peel, core and slice the apples. Then put the apple slices in a pan with enough cider (or water) to prevent them from sticking and cook them until they are soft. Run the apple pulp through a progressive food mill. Using an apple corer slicer to slice the apples before cooking will help them cook more quickly.
Baked Apples. To make baked apples, use an apple corer to remove the core of an apple. You may first want to use an apple peeler with the coring/slicing blade dropped out of the way to peel the apple first.
Diced apples for apple cake, apple salad, etc. Use an apple peeler corer slicer to core and slice apples either peeling or not as you desire. Make multiple cuts throughout the apple to produce a small uniform dice.
Fresh apple dessert or snacks. Use the Apple corer slicer to remove the core and divide the apple evenly into 12 wedges. Serve the wedges for an after school snack or as a side dish with cheese and French bread.
Apple pie. For most varieties of apple pies, use the peeler corer slicer to cut 1/4 inch apple slices. If you prefer thicker chunks of apples, use an apple peelerto peel the apples and then the apple corer slicer to core and divide the peeled whole apple into thicker wedges.
Appetizers and other elegant presentations. Cut the apple in half with a knife and use an apple corer to remove the core. Fill the open cavity with cream cheese or other filling as desired.
