Cheese Grater Uses

One simple tool, so many reasons

Buying a cheese grater is economical. Pre-grated, pre-packaged cheese tends to be more expensive than bulk cheese. Having your own cheese-grater allows you to buy cheese in bulk and grate your cheese at home. You can also avoid having to buy more pre-grated cheese than you need because with your own cheese grater you can grate the exact amount your recipe calls for, and save the rest of your cheese for slicing or snacking.

Freshly grated cheese tastes better. Pre-grated cheeses are not as fresh as a chunk of fresh cheddar grated in your own kitchen.

You have more freedom with your own cheese grater. In addition to grating the exact amount of cheese you need, you can grate any kind of cheese you want! Pre-grated cheese often comes in only three or four varieties, but with you own grater you can grate anything from spicy pepper jack to sun dried tomato cheddar.

Cheese graters are for more than just cheese! You can grate almost anything on a cheese grater. Many soup recipes, for example, call for grated carrots.

You can also grate spices, either on a multi-sided cheese grater, or on a nutmeg grater. A nutmeg grater is a smaller cheese grater which looks like a wand and has a very fine grating. It is perfect for grating spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, or ginger. Many multi-sided graters have a spice grater on one side.

With a multi-sided or electric cheese grater, you have a greater variety of grating sizes, and can grate your cheese depending on your needs. Most multi-sided cheese graters also have a slicing side, which allows for perfectly equal cheese slices for sandwiches or cheese and cracker platters.

Finally, cheese graters are convenient. When you have your own cheese grater, you can have grated cheese any time you want it. You don't have to plan ahead and buy pre-grated cheese for a recipe. As long as you have a hunk of cheddar or parmesan on hand, you can add beautifully grated cheese to any meal you're making, from omelets to salads to tomato soup!
