Spatula

Spatula

A spatula is a spatula - or is it? Turns out, a spatula in the kitchen is two things. One type of spatula is the long handled flat bladed turning spatula used when frying or making light and fluffy pancakes. Rounded or rectangular, this type of spatula comes in many flavors such as metal, nylon, plastic and silicone. One could not make a proper pancake without it.

The second type of spatula is used for spreading or scraping. It is more blade-like and usually of a silicone or rubber design. Its blade is used to scrape bowls, pans, or pots to properly extract all available food from the sides of said receptacle. Chinese spatulas are also made from bamboo with strong handles for moving large amounts of food. Cake spatulas have a long blade and are used for applying frosting to the baked goods. Sure, the spatula can render confusion, but it does make better pancakes than a broadsword.
