First, drape a long length of upholstery fabric (which runs wider than regular fabric) over the chair. There should be enough to pin together the edges on both sides of the backrest.

Next, slip off the pin-fit fabric and sew them together. Be sure not to leave too much or too little room for the chair. A snug fit is desirable. Also, you may want to cut the back up halfway and sew on a few buttons to allow for easy removal.

Once the piece is sewn, measure the outside edge of the chair and make a skirt for the bottom of the slipcover. The skirt can be any length you desire, be it to the floor or just below the seat.

To add some personality to your new slipcovers, work in some ribbon, bows or bells. These kinds of extras are especially striking for special events like weddings, Christmas parties or birthdays.
