Independence Day (4thof July)

Independence Day

Today, Independence Day is synonymous with cookouts, parades, picnics, fireworks, and baseball games. Independence Day is virtually the only day of the year that celebrates the United States as a whole.

Every year on Independence Day you can expect to find patriotic decorations and displays on public buildings and in homes. Political figures and other leaders also take the opportunity to make public appearances and speeches in accordance with the festivities.

Independence Day is a national holiday, meaning most businesses are shut down and most government or state employees have the day off of work. Many families take advantage of the day off or the long weekend that ensues to go on vacation or plan barbeques in celebration of the event.

Firework displays have always been a staple of Independence Day celebrations, however, fireworks for personal use or inside city limits have been outlawed in many areas, relegating firework displays local officials.
