Lamp Shades

Lamp shades today are available in virtually any material you can imagine. Currently, lamp shades are being manufactured from all kinds of cloths as well as other materials such as stained glass, metals, shells, and paper.

The basic form of lamp shade, which stretches materials from top to bottom with wire circles, is usually known as an empire, coolie, or drum. Lamp shades can also be differentiated by how they expose light. For example, glass globe lamp shades are often use for task lighting while softer lamp shades such as paper lanterns are good for more ambient lighting.

Lamp shades can be attached to their lamp companions by different means. Some lamp shades, mostly the standard, conical lamp shades, rest atop a vertical stand and are attached with a screw or wing nut. Other lamp shades are permanently attached to their bases.
