Vase Styles

Vases come in a variety of styles.  Depending on what you plan to use your vase for, or whether you are looking for a decorative piece, you should gain a little insight into the styles of vases available to you.  Here are a few more popular types:

There's nothing like fresh flowers

Flower vases are one of the most common forms of the vase, and are extremely versatile.  Flower vases can be made of clear glass, blown glass, crystal, porcelain, or other types of ceramic material.  The bud vase, a specific type of flower vase, is generally smaller in size than a typical flower vase, and is designed to hold one to three flowers.  Bud vases give your home that finishing touch, and make nice, simple gifts.

Look to the east

Chinese vases are often made out porcelain, and feature intricate designs and patterns.  Traditional designs include floral and bird motifs. Animals, such as the dragon, are also portrayed. Chinese vases are known for their bright, varied colors, and traditional cobalt blue and white pieces. A Chinese vase serves as an eye-catching decorative piece for your living or dining room.

It's Greek to me

Greek vases are made out of clay and are used for a variety of purposes.  Larger Greek vases are extremely functional, such as the amphora, which, traditionally, was used to hold oil, grain, wine or water.  Greek vases, such as the famous Francois Vase, are often painted with mythological characters, depicting the scene from a story.  These vases may employ the black-figure style on red clay. Like Chinese vases, Greek vases make a nice addition to your living or dining room.

Atop the Eiffel Tower

Tower vases look, true to their name, like towers.  This type of vase is also called the Eiffel tower vase, due to its resemblance in shape to the Eiffel Tower.  These vases make excellent centerpieces at large functions, such as wedding receptions.

Shop smart

No matter what style of vase you are looking for, make sure you look for wholesale and discounted vases on the internet and at local stores.  The price of vases varies widely, so you'll want to be sure that you get the best deal possible!  Look for antique vases, and other, harder-to-find items, at flea markets and local antique shops.
