Gas Patio Fireplace

Keep the home fires burning

Gas patio fireplaces complement other entertaining and cooking accessories such as grills and smokers. Whether portable or mounted in permanent settings, gas fireplaces give an outdoor space charm, comfort, and versatility.

Gas patio fireplaces can be installed in any spot sheltered from high wind and surrounded with fireproof materials. Suitable for hardcore enthusiasts, such a fireplace creates a kind of middle zone between the indoors and outdoors, a space with the adventure and excitement of nature, but many of the comforts of home.

Like all gas-powered appliances, patio fireplaces can be configured to run on natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (propane). In the case of units that connect to existing gas lines, expert installation by professionals is required.

Portable power

A portable gas patio fireplace functions much like a full-size indoor unit, only without the necessary infrastructure and ductwork. A non-vented patio fireplace consists of a housing (more or less identical to the body of an indoor fireplace) mounted onto a pedestal and base support for movement along a surface. The base support includes wheels and casters so that the entire unit can be wheeled around and repositioned. The base also incorporates a self-contained fuel supply for powering a burner in the fireplace housing. Burner controls include an oxygen depletion sensor (to assure the fire remains in optimal condition and gas leaks are contained) and tilt sensors to assure the unit deactivates if it falls.

Most portable units run on propane, since that fuel tends to be easier to find in many markets and can be stored more easily.

Interior decorating moves outside

Motivated by the need for respites to balance increasingly stressful and full lives, homeowners have turned to the creation of intricate outdoor spaces to provide a setting for restful interaction between friends, family, and nature. The yearning to entertain year-round fuels this momentum to develop outdoor environments, areas that provide comfort and style for as long as the seasons will allow. Further, limitations imposed by nature have taken a backset to technology and design. Thanks to innovations like outdoor fireplaces, one can enjoy the benefits of a well-heeled patio or garden space at night, in the winter, or even in the rain.
