Badminton is a racquet sport played by two or more players. The players, situated on either side of a court, volley the shuttlecock over a net. Every time the opposing side misses, a point is scored for the serving team.
The game has roots in ancient China, where children would use their feet to keep the shuttlecock from falling to the ground, and in England, where the racquet was introduced to the game.
Badminton enjoys a surprising amount of professional competitive play, but it is also a favorite outdoor activity and relatively easy to learn. The game is popular at picnics, barbeques and family reunions; really anywhere people get together outdoors.
Play kits including the essentials - a few racquets, shuttlecocks and a net - can be reasonably priced and games are easy to set up.
