Horseshoes is an outdoor game in which two teams alternate throwing u-shaped pieces of metal, resembling horseshoes, at stakes on opposite ends of the playing area.
There are two ways to score in horseshoes, either by landing a horseshoe within six inches to the stake, or by scoring a ringer, where the horseshoe lands wrapped around the stake.
Horseshoes is incredibly easy to play, but difficult to master. Its simplicity is a huge part of its allure, as it is accessible to people of all ages and skill levels.
Players can either buy a set, which will supply all the necessary pieces, or parts can be collected fairly easily at a well stocked hardware store. Stakes can either be planted into the ground, surrounded by sand, or portable boxes can be built for them. A portable box is a good option for casual players of the game of horseshoes.
