A popular bat-and-ball game, professionally and informally, cricket is fun, fast, and exciting. Though it has many traditional rules and regulations, it is easy to pick up the basics of the game, which can be played anywhere there is an empty patch of ground.

A cricket field is an elliptical area with a hardened strip in the middle of the field called the pitch. This is usually clay in professional fields. The bowler serves the ball down the pitch and the batter must hit the ball into the field. The batter then runs to the other end of the pitch, to switch positions with the non-batting partner. When the two successfully run to opposite ends, a point is scored.

Cricket is simpler in function, but more complex in execution than baseball. Cricket is largely popular in England, Australia, and many countries in Africa and South America.

While cricket is mainly a professional sport, it is easily played in any casual capacity where two teams of players come together. Like baseball in the United States, it is not uncommon to see pick-up games being played in parks and fields all over the world.
