Hang a swing on the porch and you'll be amazed at the traffic it gets! Your family will love the relaxing sway of the porch swing while they watch the neighborhood happenings. Be sure to hang your swing up right though, with these easy instructions on how to install a porch swing:
1. Make sure you have enough space! Measure your porch or garden spot for height and width so you don't have any complications when you start swinging.
2. You'll need hanging kit with your swing, and it needs to have all the galvanized hardware and heavy-duty chains for your swing. Purchase eye-bolts or large hooks to hang from.
3. For extra bounce and comfort, we recommend purchasing some sort of spring set as well. These springs are tightly coiled together to absorb shocks, and will enhance the comfort of your porch swing's every move.
4. Locate an overhead beam with enough clearance for the swing and install your eye bolts or hooks at proper, even spacing. Drill pilot holes first to prevent wood splitting and increase long term strength of the porch swing.
5. Four chains will support your porch swing, two from each hook. One on each hook to the front of the swing and one to the back. Seven-foot-long chains from a beam 8 feet above the floor will lift the swing 17 inches so you'll have clearance, but an easy transition from floor to swing for kids and adults alike.
6. You can also consider a porch swing stand if you don't want to drill into your beams. Put stands anywhere in your yard or garden, or even on the actual porch. A canopy or shade will protect porch swingers from the sun.
7. Better safe than sorry as the saying goes, so double check to ensure you have used all the hardware correctly and that the chains are securely fastened before using the swing regularly. Happy porch swinging!
